2016 WRITE: Sudden stories: A set of pictures. A hook line. What happened here? Would it make a story?

Sudden stories: A set of pictures.  A hook line.
What happened here?  Would it make a story?
A challenge for a writers group in virtual worlds.  Get together and exercise the writing parts of your brain.  Here is a half-written story.
  • Booland Redux - where the patient person recalled me from the night previously. "Thanks for wearing pants," she said.
  • "Pants??" I whisper to myself ...
  • Sorry, the scene is no longer there.

  • Aloud, I say, "I normally wear pants. And I was wearing pants last night."
  • She nods.  "Yes, you were.  That is why I thanked you."
  • I try to remember, but my head is bursting.  My memory of most of last night is fuzzy, but I don't remember who was not wearing pants.
  • "They say a Bloody Mary is good for a hangover," she added helpfully.  I nod and wait as she fixes it.
  • I try to make conversation: "It was a  wild night, I guess."
  • "Not for me."

Did I ride that bicycle?
  • It is for someone wearing pants.
  • But I don't think I could have ridden any bicycle last night.
  • Not without leaving bruises.

Maybe there are clues here
  • But I can't read them without my glasses.
  • I don't remember this lady from last night.
  • And she pays no attention to me.
  • I might as well be "Mister Cellophane"

  • Unattended children will be given espresso and a free kitten.
  • Come to think of it, there was a cat around last night.
  • Not a kitten. A real cat.  But that's where kittens come from.

How does the cat fit in?
  • Oh yes.  She was lying at the feet of the guy who was not wearing pants.
  • Until the big dog came by.
  • I think it is starting to come together.

Challenge to the reader-writer

  • Write a story derived from the notes above.
  • You are welcome to publish it anywhere you please.
  • You have my permission to use any of the pictures.
  • You may want to  check with the land owner, Reyn Forest.
  • But this was a public place and stills probably come under "Fair Use."
